In recent years, we’ve seen the rise in popularity of smartphones designed for gaming. For the most part, the hardware isn’t too different from regular flagship phones, but the main differences are in the software where it comes with various optimizations and features to help enhance the gaming experience.

Now it looks like Google’s Pixel phones could be getting something similar as well. While we doubt that Google will be making a gaming Pixel phone, the folks at Android Police have discovered that within the Android 12 beta, there is a “Game mode” feature. We’re not quite sure what it’s supposed to do, but enabling it will give users extra features like quick screenshots, screen recordings, adding an FPS counter, and DND mode.

There are also options for “Game Optimization” which seems to be greyed out, and also the ability to directly stream your gaming session to YouTube Live. These are similar features that we’ve seen in other gaming smartphones, so it isn’t anything too special, but it could be useful for non-gaming phones.

Whether or not it will be part of the Android 12 update for all devices remains to be seen, but some have speculated that it could be an exclusive Pixel feature, but we’ll have to wait for the release of the update to get a better idea.
