Newer OnePlus Smartphones Will Now Receive 3 Major Android Updates Leave a comment

Typically handset manufacturers guarantee at least 2 years of major Android updates, and anything beyond that is at the company’s discretion. However, the good news for OnePlus customers is that it looks like moving forwards, the company will be changing their update schedule and extend it to 3 years for the company’s flagship phones.

However, it should be noted that this will only apply to phones like the OnePlus 8 and newer, meaning that if you’re still using the OnePlus 7 or 7T or an even older OnePlus device, then you’d be out of luck and you would still only receive 2 major Android updates as per usual and 3 years of security updates.

According to OnePlus, “After a lot of evaluation and discussion, we’ve come up with a solid plan to best leverage our shared resources with OPPO. In order to improve efficiency and standardize the software experience across our portfolio, we’re working on integrating the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS.”

As for the company’s Nord and Nord N series, the Nord series will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates, while the Nord N series will receive one major Android update and three years of security updates. This seems to be unchanged from before and it is a pity that the Nord N will only receive one major update, but we suppose that’s the compromise for a phone on a budget.
