One of the problems with WhatsApp is that depending on which platform you use, WhatsApp uses different services to backup your data and chat history. For iOS users, it would be iCloud, and for Android users, it would be Google Drive. This in turn creates a problem where migrating to a different platform usually means you can’t bring your chat history over.
We previously heard that WhatsApp could be working on a tool to let you transfer chat history across platforms, and now a follow-up report from WABetaInfo has revealed that WhatsApp is working on a way that could even let you transfer chat history to a completely different phone number.
This might be useful if you have a chat history on one number but you later on decide to change phones and phone numbers, so this tool will make the transfer process a lot easier. We imagine that this could be particularly useful for businesses or enterprise users who might have multiple devices and numbers for different purposes.
Unfortunately, there is no word on when the feature will be released. As it stands, you will need to use third-party tools to transfer chat history across platforms, but even then it’s not always a guarantee that it will work, so this native tool will no doubt be much welcome.
